Welcome to Amarugia Boer Goats

Twin Star's Red Hot
*Percentage Doe of Excellence*

Amarugia (pronounced Am-Ah-Roo-Gee) Boer Goats is located on 5 acres north of Drexel, Missouri just outside the Amarugia Highland Wildlife Conservation area.  We have been active in the boer goat industry since 2000 when Ryan chose to raise boer goats for his FFA SAE project.  Over the years we have strived to put together a herd of show quality percentage and fullblood boer goats  with emphasis on breeding for the show ring.

Our venture into the boer goat industry began when we went to visit the goat barn at the Missouri State Fair in 2000.  We  ran into Barbara Holaday and she showed us her  boer goats.  I fell in love with the breed but Don and Ryan remained skeptical.  I began researching boer goats on the internet and soon had a trip scheduled to Triquest Farms in Humansville, Missouri.  We purchased our first percentage does at that time and when the first does kidded, Don and Ryan were hooked.  Since that date we have added does from the farms many popular breeders in the U.S.  Our does feature some of the top bloodlines in the industry.  The majority of the does that currently reside in the breeding herd are from our showstring and occasionally, when they are not busy raising kids, make a trip back to the show ring.

Amarugia does are complemented by our  herd sires.  Our senior herd sire,  Luch Intimidator is sired by Powell/Holman 13R *Ennobled* and out of Mzuri Sufi.  Intimidator's first daughters hit the show ring winning multiple grand and reserve championships and top ten placings in both open and youth at the 2006 ABGA Nationals.  At Nationals in 2006 Clarence Luchini found an outstanding young buck for Ryan to add as our junior herd sire.  Ash Creek Texas Star is sired bythe world renowned RRD Gauge *Ennobled* and out of IBGA National Champion Ash Creek Bright Star *Ennobled*.  We are very excited about what his superior genetic  package will add to our program and are already seeing some great kids out of Tex.

In 2003 Ryan was fortunate to  win grand champion wether at the Missouri State Fair with one of the first show wethers he raised.  That year Ryan had the honor of representing the Missouri Meat Goat Producers Association as the first grand champion wether to appear in the Missouri State Fair of Sale of Champions.  Since that time, Ryan continued to successfully show wethers with numerous winnings including  reserve champion  wether at the 2004 Missouri State Fair.  Ryan also bred  the 2006 San Francisco Cow Palace reserve champion wether.

2007 was a great year for the Amarugia Boer Goat farm.  Our junior percentage doe, Amarugia Shimmer sired by LUCH Intimidator, racked up 50 ABGA points for the year with two Overall Grands and consistently placing at the top of her classes.  It was a good year for bucks.  Ash Creek Texas Star won an Overall Grand and two Reserve Overall Grands in 2007, along with several division Grands and Reserves.  LUCH Intimidator had an excellent year, earning 35 ABGA points and never placing less than Grand Senior Buck.  He topped off his year with a second place ribbon at ABGA nationals.  He is only 10 progeny points away from being *Ennobled*, which he should earn from this years kid crop out of him.  In 2007 animals owned and shown by Amarugia Boer Goats accumulated over 250 ABGA points!

We hope you enjoy our animals and we encourage you to make an appointment to come out to our farm or at least say hi at the shows!
